| As of the end of 2005, the local Asset Management Industry stands at over PhP850Bn in assets managed. The industry continues to enjoy the interest of varied and strategic institutional players with investment products positioned as retirement/pension funds, and open-ended funds or Unit Investment Trust Funds. The industry is currently dominated by banks operating through their independent "asset management and trust departments". A financial institution is allowed to engage in the business only after securing a license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). A separate and distinct set of regulations implemented by the BSP governs the conduct of the business, which is characterized generally by its inherent fiduciary responsibility.
