BPI in list of Asia's Best Firms

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has made it to the list of the best companies in Asia in 2005.

In an article that appears in its April issue, Finance Asia, a magazine of worldwide circulation, ranks BPI second in Best Commitment to Strong Dividend Payment and eighth in Best Investor Relations among companies that operate in the Philippines.

The magazine also ranks the bank sixth in two categories: Best Managed Company and Best Corporate Governance.

Every year the World renowned financial publication determines, based on a survey of clients and investors, the best firms in the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand under the four categories.

Two of BPI’s sister companies, Ayala Corporation and Globe Telecom, are named Best in Corporate Governance and Best in Commitment to Strong Dividend Payments, respectively.

PLDT/ Smart is Best Managed Company and Best Investor Relations.

The 154-year-old financial institution is the only bank included in the list, a distinction that sets it apart from others in the industry.

Other companies that figure prominently in the survey are SM Prime, Jollibee Foods, San Miguel Corporation, ABS-CBN, Aboitiz, Equity Ventures, and Petron

BPI Honored with SuperBrand Award for 2nd Straight Year

For its commendable performance in the banking sector for two years in a row, the Bank of the Philippine Islands has been honored anew with the highly-esteemed SuperBrand Award.

The Reader’s Digest SuperBrand Awards is based on a comprehensive consumer preference survey that represents the lifestyle of Asian consumers. Conducted annually among consumers in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, the survey is considered as one of the most accurate and thorough market scans that rates brands based on quality, value, trustworthiness, strong image and understanding of customer needs. This year, a total of 42 categories of products and services were presented and given out to 94 awardees.

BPI Consumer Banking Senior Vice President for Marketing, Nita A. Claravall says, “we are truly grateful to the consumers who think highly of our services enough for us to merit SuperBrand status for the second consecutive year. It has been our commitment to bring them relevant products and services that would make life easier for them and with this award they can rest assured of our continuous efforts to remain true to that same commitment.”

The Bank of the Philippine Islands has been one of the most trusted financial institutions in the country today. With over 700 branches nationwide, over 1,000 Express Teller ATM Machines nationwide and a number of branches in different parts of the world, BPI continues to serve the Filipino’s banking needs wherever they may be.

From introducing the first 24-hour ATM, the Express Teller ATM Card in 1983, it carries on the innovative stance by ushering services in the computer age. To date, BPI has introduced services like BPI Direct, the phone and internet banking facility for Expat Pinoys or Filipinos working overseas but prefer to do the banking transactions and see through the needs of their family members themselves.

In line with this service for Expat Pinoys, BPI has also launched the Expat Pinoy Program which created an array of services that provide a venue for them to send remittance directly to their loved one’s account, Express Remittance, or make their dreams come true with services that assist them to have their own home, car or send their children to the best schools.

BPI’s latest offering that makes banking more convenient for its patrons is the Express Connect mobile banking service. This service allows BPI account holders to enjoy the convenience of doing balance inquiry on accounts, credit card, auto and housing loan balances through Short Message Service (SMS).

“For a bank that has been established in 1851 and constantly reinvents itself, maintaining its leadership stance in the market means more than just surviving and enduring the challenges brought about by time, rather it is to be of reliable service to our patrons, and that is what is more rewarding for us at BPI,” Claravall ends.

BPI Express Learning Center bags Asian Banking Awards for Customer Service Program

The Asian Banking Awards 2005 recently recognized Bank of the Philippine Islands’ Express Learning Center (ELC) as best Customer Service Program in the region. BPI's senior vice-president for Marketing, Nita Claravall, received the award held at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

The ELC, located at Park Square 1 in Ayala Center, Makati, is the first tutorial center in the banking industry opened to cater to the needs of new and prospective clients to familiarize themselves with the different products and services of BPI. The Center is equipped with computer terminals and other amenities needed to access BPI’s online and phone-banking facilities. There are also knowledgeable ELC teachers available to offer free lessons like how to open an account, transfer funds and pay bills online, to name a few, and other banking modules and financial advice to those who visit the center.

ELC was chosen among other customer service programs because of its innovative customer service system which effectively addressed the servicing needs of its clients which provided a boost in the bank’s regulation of a quality service provider.

“Receiving the Asian Banking Awards is an honor to the bank as well as a challenge to further better our services so we could be able to reach out to every Filipino who needs financial and banking assistance,” Claravall said.
